README.win32: Windows NT Notes and Instructions. There are now Visual C++ (version 6.0/sp2) project and workspace files that can be used to build Rlab. The caveat is that all the supporting libraries must also be built, and I am not presently supplying project/workspace files for those. Windows may always be a little more difficult to build for than Unix. To build the libraries (BLAS, LAPACK, etc.) I run the Fortran sources through f2c, then compile the libraries with VC++. It is probably easiest for most people to get the compiled/binary distribution of Rlab for win32. This source/binary release for Windows offers plotting capability via the latest release of Gnuplot (v 3.71 for win32). To do this, get the latest gnuplot_win.r and copy it to: %RLAB2_HOME%\rlib\gnuplot_win.r To install: 1) Unzip the distribution file into a directory, which we will refer to as RLAB2_HOME 2) Optional: put %RLAB2_HOME%\bin in your path. You only need to do this if you want to run Rlab from the command window. If you make a shortcut on the desktop for Rlab, or start it from explorer, then you don't need to do this. 3) run it, and have fun! 4) If you want to customize the setup the following environment variables are available: RLAB2_RC0 The Rlab startup script. RLAB2_HELP_DIR The directory where the help files are located. RLAB2_LIB_DIR The directory where the Rlab library is located. RLAB2_PATH The search path for rfiles. RLAB2_PAGER The pager program to use to print information to the screen. 5) Regression testing. If you want to verify that everything is OK, the you can do: .\rlab -qrlp test.r If the test runs successfully, the last line will look something like: DONE, Elapsed time = 2.784 seconds 6) Documentation: HTML manual is located in .\doc\html\rlab-ref.html PDF version is located in .\doc\rlab-ref.pdf To Build: These build instructions are incomplete. At present, their purpose is mostly to remind myself what I do to build on Windows. 1) copy config.h.win32 to config.h 2) build libraries 3) use rlab.dsw via VC++6 to build. 4) run buildwin-zip to make distribution... -Ian Searle 05/13/2000
